New Zealand ease to 8-wicket win in Hamilton Test

Hosts New Zealand defeated West Indies by 8 wickets in the Third Test at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday. New Zealand have completed the 3-match series with a 2-0 win with only the first Test at Dunedin turning out to be a draw that too because of rain on the final day.

Bowling first after winning the toss, New Zealand had West Indies in all sorts of trouble at 86 for 5. However, brilliant centuries from Shivnarine Chanderpaul (122 from 229 balls with 11 fours) and Wicket Keeper Denesh Ramdin (107 from 148 balls with 18 fours) lifted West Indies to a competitive total of 367. Tim Southee took 4 for 79 while Corey J Anderson chipped in with three wickets with his medium pace.

West Indies managed to earn a slender lead of 18 thanks to Sunil Narine’s 6 for 91 in 42.3 overs. New Zealand got to 349 thanks to Ross Taylor’s 131 (from 264 balls with 16 fours and 2 sixes) and a slow 58 from Kane Williamson. By the close of Day 3, New Zealand were on the winning path with its seamers destructing the tourists for a paltry 103 in just 31.5 overs.

Trent Boult claimed 4 for 23, Tim Southee came up with 3 for 12 while Neil Wagner took 2 for 34. New Zealand left with a target of just 122 eased to the victory in 40.4 overs losing only a couple of wickets. The match was over on Day 4 with Hamish Rutherford scoring 48* and Kane Williamson scoring 56. Ross Taylor got the Man of the Match for his crucial first innings century.
