South Africa won the first ODI at North Sound by 66 runs with West Indies failing to chase down a stiff target of 281 in 50 overs. The grand win for SA was set up by centuries from opener Hashim Amla (102 from 109 balls with 8 fours) and AB de Villiers (102 from 101 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes). West Indies chasing the target were rocked back by Morne Morkel who captured 3 for 40. The hosts were bowled out for 215 in 44.1 overs.
