Shaun Tait HobartAustralia won the first Twenty20 International at the Bellerive Oval by 38 runs. Batting first, the Aussies put up 179 for 8 with opener David Warner top scoring with 49 from 32 balls (with 6 fours and 2 sixes). The other opener Shane Watson also batted well for smacking 37 from 19 which included 4 sixes. Brad Haddin gave the final touches with an unbeaten 37 from 16 balls.

West Indies in their chase slipped to an ugly 53 for 6 in the 10th over. They ended up at 141 for 8 thanks to Runako Morton (40 from 41 balls) and Denesh Ramdin (44 from 26 balls). Express fast bowlers – Shaun Tait and Dirk Nannes picked up three wickets each. Tait for destroying the top order picked up the Man of the Match.
