Australia finished the opening day’s play of the first Test at the Gabba at a solid 322 for 5. Having lost makeshift opener Shane Watson for a duck, Australia bounced back through Simon Katich (92) and Ricky Ponting (55) who put on a 125-run partnership for the second wicket. Michael Hussey (66) too scored a fifty but like the other two didn’t go onto make a big hundred. Michael Clarke returning back to the team after a long time scored 41. For the visitors, Dwayne Bravo picked up two wickets.

West Indies has two players making their Test Debut – opener Adrian Barath and fast bowler Ravi Rampaul. Both the players are from Trinidad and Tobago.
