Mahela Jayawardene BridgetownSri Lanka hammered hosts West Indies by 57 runs in the Super Eights Match at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Batting first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka batted West Indies out of the match by scoring 195 for 3. Mahela Jayawardene continued to his rich form to strike a sweet unbeaten 98 from 56 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes.

It was a tragedy that Mahela was stranded at the non striker’s end unable to reach a well deserved century. Skipper Kumar Sangakkara provided him able support with a 49-ball 68 (with 5 fours and 3 sixes). West Indies in their reply lost Chris Gayle and thus had no impetus to their innings. They finished with a dull 138 for 8 with Ajantha Mendis and Lasith Malinga toying with the batsmen through their variations. Both the destructive bowlers took three wickets each.

Mahela Jayawardene was the Man of the Match for his 98 not out.
