Mathew Hayden MongooseChennai Super Kings overpowered Delhi Daredevils in a high scoring contest at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Led by a powerful knock of 93 from 43 balls (with 9 fours and 7 sixes) and a Captain’s innings from Suresh Raina (49* from 34 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes), CSK chased a target of 186 by 5 wickets and with five balls to spare.

The Daredevils too had a new Captain in Dinesh Karthik because of the absence of Gautam Gambhir due to a hamstring injury. For the record, CSK are without MS Dhoni as he had got hit by an express delivery from Shaun Tait on his right elbow.

Delhi Daredevils courtesy of a blistering knock of 74 from 38 balls (with 10 fours and 3 sixes) reached a good total of 185 for 6. Delhi Ranji players – Mithun Manhas and Rajat Bhatia made important contributions as well.

On a wicket that was going to be slower and lower, Mathew Hayden unleashed his Mongoose bat for the first time in the IPL! The Daredevils’ bowlers had no clue what to do and just kept on feeding him with fullish deliveries though the short pitch balls could have made some difference against the baby bat! Hayden literally toyed with the bowlers with the extra boost from the Mongoose.

There was one positive coming out of the Delhi Daredevils in the form of Umesh Yadav. The youngster was belted to all parts of the ground but he showed some raw pace which touched around 144 kmph at times. The 22-year-old from Vidarbha is surely going to be picked in the Indian team in the immediate future.
