Smith, Amla tons carry SA to comfortable win in Cape Town Test

The opening Test at Newlands in Cape Town finished on the third day itself with hosts South Africa cruising through for an 8-wicket win. South Africa now cannot lose this 2-Test Series having got a 1-0 lead.

Skipper Graeme Smith (101* from 140 balls with 15 fours)and Hashim Amla (112 from 134 balls with 21 fours) cracked breezy hundreds to ease South Africa past the target of 236 in just 50.2 overs.

It was a solid batting show from the Proteas considering the fact that 23 wickets fell in the second day’s play with SA getting packed for 96 followed up by the embrassing 47 all out by Australia. Debutant pacer Vernon Philander for taking 8 wickets got the Man of the Match award.
