Former Test Cricket Great Fred Trueman passes away

The first bowler in Test Cricket to take 300 victims, England’s Fred Trueman passed away on Saturday at the age of 75. “Fiery Fred” as he was called was suffering from Lung Cancer. Trueman had played 67 Tests in which he had taken 307 wickets at just 21.57 and at an impressive strike rate of 49.43! He had taken an incredible 2304 first class wickets and his International Career had lasted for 13 years. Trueman had made his Test match Debut against India at Headingley, Leeds in 1952. The former great had taken 7 wickets on his Test Match Debut, but what was more staggering was the fact that he was responsible for India being 4 wickets down for 0 on the board in the 2nd innings with Trueman picking up the wickets of Pankaj Roy, Madhav Mantri and Vijay Manjrekar in his first spell. Trueman also served as a BBC Commentator. For the record, Frederick Sewards Trueman picked up 17 five wicket hauls in an innings and 3 ten wicket hauls in a match. His 300th wicket had come during the 5th Test against Australia in 1964 at The Oval.
