Varun Aaron

The other day during my routine Orkutting, I came across a post talking about an Indian bowler clocking speeds of 150 kmph! I didn’t believe it initially, but when I saw the video of this Varun Aaron guy, I was simply excited to know about this new Kohinoor diamond of Indian Cricket. I have no idea as to how all of a sudden we have a bowler clocking speeds of around 145 kmph on a regular basis but that is a reality now, yes India does have a bowler who can beat the batsmen with pace in the air, aaah atlaast!

  • Varun Aaron Bowling Speed: Consistently 145 kmph
  • Varun Aaron Fastest Ball: 151 kmph during an Indian domestic match

Unlike the mysterious Atul Sharma who boasts of bowling around 160 kmph but is yet to play in any competitive match, we have Varun Aaron proving his ability in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy which his team Jharkhand won. Interestingly Varun Raymond Aaron had made his first class debut in 2008 itself but it is only now that he has caught the attention of a lot more people than before. Another fact about this 21-year-old is that he was picked in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad in 2010 having impressed the then Skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Thanks to Neo Cricket which broadcasts Domestic Cricket, I like a few others had the honour of watching this latest sensation who has emerged out from Jharkhand. Yes, its the same state that had a few years back produced a sensation in Indian Cricket by the name – Mahendra Singh Dhoni!

Although I watched only a few balls bowled by Varun Aaron, my observations about him is that he is indeed very quick. No doubt that he is the fastest bowler atleast in India comfortably beating the likes of Ishant Sharma, Sreesanth, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Ajit Agarkar and others. Now he could even be the fastest ever bowler that India has ever produced. If I am not mistaken, Javagal Srinath and Munaf Patel in his early days could have bowled anything around 145 kmph.

Varun Aaron has a very brisky approach to the crease, has a very open chested action and bowls pretty close to the stumps. His run up doesn’t look to be exaggeratedly long like a Shoaib Akhtar. Varun looks like a Panther when he is charging towards the bowling crease and he has a very fast wrist release. This youngster has decent control of his line and lengths as well from whatever little that has been seen so far. Hopefully he has learnt his trade decently well as he already had a stint in the MRF Pace foundation and also with the Australian Centre of Excellence.

Let’s hope that Varun Aaron is soon picked in the Indian team and that he wouldn’t fade away as a pale line and length bowler like Munaf Patel! We at CricketFundas.com wish that Varun Aaron has a long and illustrious career for the country at the top levels.
