Diamond Eagles from South Africa eliminated Sussex Sharks in a dramatic manner with the winner of the game decided through the Super Over. The winner of this Group B match was to move into the League Round while the loser was heading out of the Champions League. It was a tied game at the Kotla between the Eagles and Sussex but the former prevailed in the Super Over contest.

Sussex batting first put up 119 for 7 after their top order indulged in hara-kiri. The top scorer of their innings was Joe Gatting (25 from 22). Eagles in reply got a fabulous start through left hander Rilee Rossouw. Just when the Eagles seemed to be cruising through the target came the twist in the game with the spin duo of Skipper Michael Yardy and Piyush Chawla appyling the brakes on the scoring. Even a well set Rossow found it hard towards the end to keep up with the required run rate. Rossow scored 65 from 62 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes before perishing in the 19th over.

For Sussex, Rory Hamilton-Brown controlled the final overs with his quick off breaks and gave absolutely nothing. Eagles got themseves into a difficult position in the final over with 12 runs needed to win from Yasir Arafat bowling. Ryan McLaren came up with two crucial boundaries – one of them was in the final ball of the innings which forced a dramatic tie. In the Super over, Eagles scored 9 runs while Sussex were all out for a duck with Cornelius de Villiers striking the timber twice in consecutive balls.
