First ODI washed away due to heavy rains

South Africa might have pulled out from the Unitech Cup but there is a third team in the form of the weather that has been ruling the roost in Colombo. The second day’s play of the First ODI between Sri Lanka and India was completely washed away without a single ball being bowled. Yesterday 22 balls were bowled before bad light and rain put halt to the proceedings.

The scene was perfectly set today with bright sunshine in the morning which was enough to take it for granted that there would be more than 22 balls of play. But in a matter of few minutes the sky had taken off its blue coat and had changed to a grey one and the match which could have started at 11:00 AM looked like a non starter for the day with rain pelting down without any mercy and soon the Indian team wisely packed their bags and left for their hotel. After a while, the Umpires decided that there was no chance left for a match to be held and thus the first ODI was called off. For the record, the two teams will have to meet again tomorrow for the 2nd ODI which is at this same venue at 10:00 AM local time but again it is expected to be a rainy day in Colombo according to the weather forecasts.
