Cape Cobras have stormed into the League Stage after a second consecutive victory. The South African side defeated Otago Volts by a comprehensive margin of 54 runs at Hyderabad. Skipper Andrew Puttick led from the front with an elegant unbeaten century and was the obvious candidate for the Man of the Match award.

Cobras were asked to bat first by Craig Cummins who had won the toss. Although Herschelle Gibbs flopped for the second time, Cobras could still get to a big total on what was a beautiful batting track. Left handed opener and Captain – Andrew Puttick controlled the innings right from the start till the end. He started off stroking the ball sweetly and finished up with an unbeaten 104 from 62 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes. The final overs saw a breathtaking cameo from right hander Justin Ontong who hammered an unbeaten 39 from 14 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes.

Otago Volts had no choice other than going for the kill right from the go in their chase of 194. They started off well through the free hitting Redmond and Brendon McCullum but once the two were sent back, Cobras were in control of things. Henry Davids played a huge role in sinking Otago’s chase through his energetic fielding. Davids came up with a catch and a couple of run outs in the first ten overs. Otago were out of the equation at 79 for 5 and they could end up with 139 all out. Nathan McCullum was unexpectedly the top scorer with 38 from 21 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
