England crushed Pakistan by an innings and 225 runs to win the 4-Test Series 3-1 but all the focus of the cricketing world was on the match fixing allegations levied on the visitors! The fourth and final Test at Lord’s was spot-fixed by a few Pakistani players according to the Sting Operation conducted by a British Tabloid – News of the World.
‘News of the World’ came up with clinching video evidences claiming that pacers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif were bought to bowl intentional no-balls at specific periods during the England innings. Salman Butt, the Skipper was mentioned by the newspaper as the Ring Leader of this fixing episode! The match went ahead despite all these exposes just prior to the start of the fourth day’s play with Pakistan resuming at 41 for 4 in their second innings.
The Pakistani batsmen appeared to be uninterested in battling it out and wickets were presented cheaply to the English bowlers mainly Graeme Swann who picked up a five-wicket haul. Pakistan were bundled out in 36.5 overs for 147. Umar Akmal was the only one to get on top of the bowling with an unbeaten 79 from 68 balls.
The Man of the Match award went to Stuart Broad for his all-round show. The tainted Mohammad Amir shared the Player of the Series award with Jonathan Trott.
