It looks as if the Bangladeshi lower half didn’t draw any inspiration from the efforts of Javed Omar and Rajin Saleh during yesterday’s play. The Tigers still had five wickets standing before they had to bow down before the inevitable. They still had Saqibul, Khaled Mashud who are both genuine batsmen and then they had the all rounders Rafique and Mortaza. Yet the Tigers disappointingly went down crashing playing just the 31 balls today!

The first full over of the day itself, wicket keeper batsman Khaled Mashud, known for his stubborn defence walked back to the hut getting bowled by the slinger Lasith Malinga. And then afterwards, there was a wicket in every over. The five wickets went down in a hurry with Murali taking two and Lasith taking three. All Bangladesh could do was to reduce the margin of defeat to an innings and 234 runs with the 21 runs added today. Bangladesh were bowled out for 254 with their innings lasting 87.1 overs.

Both Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan ended up with four wickets each. Muralitharan had taken his 58th five wicket haul in the first innings and with figures of 9 for 102, he was the Man of the Match. The second test start from the 3rd of next month at this same Colombo city.
